Seasons Greetings!

Ya well… Yawn! It’s finally over… Diwali is flown past once again this year at a super fast pace, even before you know it – it’s gone! Swoooshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I wouldn’t say it wasn’t all that fun, considering the 4 long days, presumably - long weekend that most of us received as part of the revelry. But I had my moments too!!!

Firstly this is my First Diwali - Thala Deepavali in Tamil Terms – gwad! Whats that??? Well every festival in the first year of marriage (as per Tamil Tradition) is termed as Thalai and apparently this has to be celebrated in the girl’s house much contrary to the merriment as per my tradition (Girl has to spend all the festivities at her in-laws place) and I am unaware of the rest. What they do and why is it called that way… hmmm… beats me! What’s really funny was a lot of others (Tamilians of course) made such a big deal about it which really got me thinking and finally asking my husband “what’s such a big deal about this thing???” Well the answer I got was obvious! My husband doesn’t care a damn about the whole thing! As long as he dint have much to do and as long as he behaves in his normal lazy self it’s all fine with him.

So there it ends, Dinner’s and lunches at our respective family gatherings and time spent over the weekend much lazier than words can describe – Yawn!!!!! I am still basking in the glory of it :)

Of updates and celebrations

It’s been quite a while since I updated this corner (personal blog of mine). Well… it has been a boring month, but that’s probably not an acceptable reason for this stepmotherly treatment to my blog… I must admit that this has more to do with my crafty undertakings that kept me busy with my other blog for tatting (Sapztat).

I have been quite a regular in the other blog. Some nice stuff created by moa is put up there. Tatting was something which I started as a hobby but now am planning to put my creations up for sale.

When am back from work, all I do is sit at home and enjoy tatting or crochet (my new found craft passion these days). And anyways, I have absolutely no social life left (thanks to my hubby dear who is the laziest person on earth!!!)…

Last week was full of festivities with Navrathri & Dussehra celebrations in full swing. Saturday marked the end of festivities with Saraswathi and Ayudha pooja. It was good fun and since this was our first year in the new house, both of us did a good job at the puja ritual (This was the first time that we did a puja all by ourselves at home) and fortunately it all went off very well…:)

Being the lady of the house (arghhh how I hate to call myself that), your’s truly took up the responsibility of cooking delicious and mouth-watering dishes as part of the celebrations. Our lunch menu included Payasam, vatha kozhambu with cabbage curry and of course, curd rice (Sundru cannot do without that!!!). It was a relief to find very few left overs of the dishes prepared and surely made me happy.

Eventhough we are inching close to our one year anniversary (yeah so soon that too) I have a very strange feeling every time I think about our married life… I am still not used to spending late nights with Sundru and living with him in “our house”. I sometimes get scared that my mother is going to call me everytime I am past the deadline…

I pinch myself to make sure that this is for real and am indeed married to Sundru!!!

My New Home

I finally managed to post my New Home pictures. I wanted to do this long time back but then totally got engaged in settling down… so, finally they are here… after 6 months!!!

So what are we waiting for, Tadaa (Drum rolls)…… Here it is...

This is my beautiful house, my husband’s gift to me, well…. not in the true sense though. Initially we were supposed to move into our new house soon after we got married but unfortunately the interiors & decor took forever to finish.

Both of us wanted this to turn out to be really beautiful considering it is “OUR First one” so we kinda over shot our budget and furnished it…

We finally moved in on the 1st of May this year and believe me, living in here is better than the pictures :)…

Cochin & Alleppey 13-15 Sept '07

Latest trip – This time to Cochin and Alleppy… I think I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. This one is my gift to Sunil (Husband), as he becomes a little more older this year on 14th Sept. Water has always been his weak point – in the sense he just loves water, whether it is the beaches of Goa or the backwaters…. I have never seen him enjoy more in any other place or location.

Here is one last time Wishing sundru a very happy birthday...I pray he has lots and lots of fun times ahead.

I just created a small slide show out of the snap shots taken from this trip… hope you enjoy it.

Blogniversary

I just cannot believe that it’s a year already since I started this blog!!! Oh boy and what a year it turned out to be!!!

Breaking away from the usual norm of keeping my life private, I started writing this blog and no regrets so far… In fact am enjoying every bit of writing and sharing all those little and big events in my life…

Well to start of with, a lot of things have happened over the past one year… I got married!!! And to the one whom I love :-)!!!

Apart from that I have been the same though (except for a few kilos more!!!), a bit more mature, some additional responsibilities (wife, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law – all rolled into one) on my head… Not too sure if am fulfilling them all… And do I feel content? A little I guess…

But there is a long way to go and am optimistic about life and yes, my blog will be the reflection of my life and how it unfolds!!!

So tune in – for there are many more episodes to follow!!!

Freedom Drive!!!

Trying not to break the tradition of “freedom drive”, Sunil and his friends planned a trip. In case you are wondering what that means – Freedom Drive, according to “The Boyz” (Sundru, PJ, GP, Chinu, Barry and Sharath), is a drive undertaken by them on every Independence Day (Aug 15th) and this year was no exception… just that I became a part of it (by default)…

As for me, I always wanted to do something like this from a very long time. Sunil, unfortunately, isn’t that adventurous… I mean, he likes to travel but asking him to drive a long distance is one hell of a task. He’d rather prefer a chauffer-driven car than do something like that. The farthest that we have driven to till now is to Srirangapatna – which is about 120 odd kms from Bangalore.

So here go the details…. The place was finally decided as Belur, Halebidu and Sravanabelagola. Chinu worked out the itinerary for our Freedom Drive (he did a lot of research and picked up the place with the help of lot of resources including some blogs). And there we were… All set for the road trip!!!

My Independence Day began at 5.45am (yes, I had to wake up early, inspite of me not being a morning person). Hats off to poor Sundru for he had to literally pull me out of the bed… I was so frustrated that I could have just cancelled the whole trip for my precious sleep but Sunil’s trick some how worked and I was ready by 6am.. We drove to PJ’s house and parked our car there… We took PJ’s car, picked up Chinu & Sharath from Sharath’s place and set off!!!!

We drove for nearly 2 hours and at around 9 am, we finally stopped at a joint called Mayura Hotel near Adichunchunagiri College for breakfast… Though we had stocked a lot of snack items & quick bites, we weren’t too keen to have those and were eagerly awaiting a place for breakfast… We had some idlis, dosas, tea and coffee and were back on the roads in half hour’s time…

The drive was really awesome till Hassan. The weather, I would say, was on our side… It was slightly sunny with light showers once in a while... Drive to Hassan was really beautiful wherein you get to pass a lot of Sunflower and Marigold filled fields. Many a times we stopped to take couple of snaps and to gaze at the scenery.

The roads were really good (NH48) but the painful part was after Hassan. From Hassan, on the way to Belur, the roads were just horrible, to say the least. Belur & Halebidu are part of the world’s heritage sites but looking at the roads it just didn’t seem so. Well… crossing all the dumps, ditches and the craters on the roads, we managed to reach Belur safely and visited the famous “Chennakeshava Temple” built by King Vishnuvardhana from the Hoysala dynasty in the year 1116 AD. The temple is just so beautiful, filled with intricate sculptures and friezes. Oh!!! I must mention about this guide who took us through the sculptures… He was so obsessed with the temple and the sculptures and took about 40 mins to explain the whole structure of the temple to us. It was fun, hilarious & nevertheless informative to hear him speak in a very exquisite english language.

After spending about an hour there, we made our way to the main road and suddenly realized that Chickmagalur wasn’t far from there – it was just about 20 kms further. Sharath said “Sounds like a plan” and we just felt what he meant!!! It was just a little over 12 pm then and we changed our plans and headed straight to Chickmagalur for lunch at the Taj Garden Retreat!!! It was so unplanned and we managed to reach the place at around quarter past one...

The Taj Garden Retreat was a very enchanting and a beautiful place. It was so relaxing that we almost tempted ourselves to stay there for the entire afternoon but had to decide against it in the interest of time... PJ was keen on finishing lunch, having a massage and having a quiet swim in the pool, but that was not to be!!! We managed to finish lunch (the theme of the entire lunch at the hotel was, obviously, Independence Day!!!) by 3pm and resumed our journey back.

Fortunately for us, it had just rained and we could feel and smell the freshness of the earth and it was just so refreshing and relaxing…

We reached Halebidu at around 4 pm but none of us were all that interested in looking around the place. We got a description about the temple in Belur itself and the temple at Halebidu just looked like a replica of the Belur temple. So, we didn’t waste much time there and decided to just head on. The weather was just right for a cup of coffee / tea and so we helped ourselves with a cup of tea each for all the boyz and I had a cuppa coffee.

On the way back, we kind of lost our way and went somewhere into interior Hassan and wasted around half hour. We had to get back to the highway but just couldn’t seem to get it. However, finally we managed to reach the highway after asking for directions. Having covered nearly 4 places (I am including Hassan here as we nearly went around the town trying to get to the highway), we decided to head back to Bangalore and skip Sravanabelagola but after much speculation, we finally decided to go for it. All the way, we were trying to catch a glimpse of the world’s tallest monolith statue but just couldn’t. The detour from the highway was just 22 kms to & fro and since majority of us hadn’t been to the temple earlier, we had to see it since we were so near to it.

We reached the temple by 5.55pm and got to know that the temple closes by around 6 pm. Now that we were there, we just didn’t want to miss the opportunity to have a look at the Jain Saint Bahubali. We had to cover only 650 STEPS!!! Man… only I know how I managed to climb all those steps by taking regular breaks in between. We finally reached the top and just as our luck would have it, the temple was still open. Thank God!!!

Finally after giving our prayers and spending around 15 mins there, we walked back to the car after having a round of coconut water to quench our thirst.. We had 156 kms to cover and it was already close to 7pm.. Hats of to Sharath who covered the distance in 2 hrs flat and was all the time driving at 120 km/hr speed.. Phew!!!! Awesome stuff!!!

We reached bangalore by 9 pm, dropped off Sharath and Chinu at Sharath’s place and headed for PJ’s house where our car was parked. We finally reached home by 9.45 pm to get set to leave for office the next day...

This was the best Independence Day ever – covered 5 places and had a wonderful drive… What a drive it was!!!

Freedom!

What does freedom mean to you? Is it being patriotic or just a euphoric attachment to your country?

Does it have to do with freedom of action, speech – as laid down by the constitution or just rejoicing the glory of the Indian Flag?

Does it have to do with agony related to the sacrifices for attaining freedom or pledge for the future that the country beholds?
Many more questions like these pop up when you think of 15th August but I can say for all working people that it’s a day off – a day that ensures holiday and gives you time to relax. Whether you sit at home and watch the Prime Minister’s special speech or spend it any other way, the fact remains that it’s the Indian Independence day…. Happy birthday to a republic & free India and here’s wishing India and all of you a great year ahead!!!

I finished reading it!!!!

Yayyyyyyy!!!!!!!!

OK…First of all, I must admit that though am a big Harry potter fan (self proclaimed) I surprisingly dint hurry myself to read the last book on the first day itself though I received my copy on the very same day it got released. I possessed the book was in itself a great feeling that I let it sink in first and then I finally started reading it yesterday….

But before I narrate my book-reading experience, one confession I must make – the day my book came (July 21st – the first day itself), I ran through the last page first. I just couldn’t stand the suspense and just wanted to know whether “he” survives!!!

And then I just left the book as it is – I didn’t even touch it!

But now I feel really proud to say that I finally finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – the last book of the series. BRILLIANT is such a small insignificant word to describe it. A totally out of the world experience… but the sad part is – it’s all over 

I would term this book to be the best out of all the earlier six that I have read. This book puts sense in all the previous ones… The reason for his existence, the secret, the logic etc just unfolds so miraculously and things just fall in place… JKR is just brilliant at it...

And finally, many many thanks to the movie that I can actually relate to the characters so well… Now I am just waiting for the book to be made into a movie and just pray that the movie brings out the actual spirit of the book… I just hope that just how the book is the best of the entire lot, the movie should be no less!!!

An amazing end to a magnificent series!

So long!

Celebration Time Folks!!!

Once upon a time... two strangers met, got acquainted, fell in love and two years down the line, got married…

Sounds like a typical cliched Bollywood love formula... Well, its not.... that’s our story...

This day, exactly two years back, Sunil and I fell in love... in the sense, the existence of "love" factor between us got established and we decided to take this relationship to the next level... A decision taken not by words but by feelings... And the surprising thing was... there was no proposal from either side!!! Guess both of us knew this was coming and the inevitable just happened...

This day ranks very high in our calendar... higher than 1st Dec, 06... 'coz, if it was not for 25th July, 05 none of what’s happening today would have been real....

Well, coming to think of it... it just seems like yesterday (a cliche again)... but then I seem to connect to it instantly, a wave of nostalgia sweeps me off... a wonderful feeling... a feeling which makes me go over to this day, two years ago, and fall in love with Sunil all over once again!!!

The Thirteenth Tale...

Last week I finished a book called the “Thirteenth Tale” which I had been reading for quite sometime… I never take long to finish a book but with this was an exception.

Though the beginning was slow and moved at a snail’s pace, it picked up speed subsequently and became so gripping that it was difficult for me to just put it down…. I had come across quite a few good reviews and when I started the novel, it didn’t seem interesting at all… But as it moved along, it became totally riveting which can be experienced only when read…

The story revolves around 2 characters - Miss Vida Winter (a writer) and Margret Lea (a biographer) and their struggle to leave their past behind which taunts them inflicting misery and pain.

A mystery from the beginning, this book is a truly must read for all book lovers. From the start till the end you are so clueless and baffled… and finally when it ends, it’s a surprise that leaves you astounded…

I wouldn’t want to be a spoiler here but suggest all of u to read the same… it’s worth it!!!

Potter mania continues...

Last Friday I managed to get a couple tickets for the new Potter movie - Harry potter and the order of the phoenix and as a huge Harry potter fan I wasn’t a bit disappointed by it. I was just a bit not less ecstatic through out the whole screening. It was fab! This is an out and out Harry’s movie and very less of his friends, Ron & Hermione, unlike the previous ones! I had been desperately waiting for it to release and Voila…. Truly a must see… and not dissappointing the spirit in which this film was made i plan to watch it a few more times till the DVD is finally out!

We had about three hours to spend before watching the movie and boy was I anxious! I had just heard from my Sis (who btw is also another potter maniac) that this movie isn’t worth missing; she had seen the same morning. I practically killed my time - of course hubby dear as always was around to give me company.

Meanwhile we took this opportunity to do something really crazy for our Wall of Fame at my New Place – we got a caricature done with both of us in it…. It’s worth taking a look…. Hehe

Further updates well there haven’t been much lately so have nothing interesting to pen… but will keep you posted on future endeavors!

On this day…

Sapna Sunil - 9th July 2006

Though it’s been a year it sure seems like just yesterday I got engaged to Sunil. It’s wonderful to observe how a year just flew by.

In this past year we’ve matured simultaneously reviving love each passing day. There have been difficult times but it’s amazing to bond even in such circumstances. I guess that’s what True love is all about, it teaches you how to hold on…

On another note – it calls for celebration, which just includes a movie date with my husband (considering it is a weekday – we cannot do much! :-( )…

So here is a Toast to us – Sapna Sunil….

I Love You Darling... There has never been a day wherein I have lived with out it and I am hoping that it stays on forever.

There hasn’t been much of an update these days and I haven’t done anything (interesting), haven’t been on trips :-( no outing as such, only one joy (my house) and that’s all!

We have been so held up and so busy with our work and balancing life that there has been no time for entertainment.

I think I better stop here before I cry out – this is the saddest write up on my blog! Sunil where are you…………………………………………

S&S Updates!

It’s been for a while now since I updated my blog… seems like a very long time... *Sigh*It was just that I was very lazy along with other reasons that I am not at the liberty to disclose.

It has been hell of a time these five months…. new life, new people around, new lifestyle and of course new me… ahhh nope that’s not just yet…. Apart from all the “new stuff”, I have been visiting old places – well old places in the sense the ones I have already been to – which include Munnar (4th April to 8th April), Rajasthan (25th Jan to 30th Jan) and Goa (16th Mar to 20th Mar) all of which we felt our visit was tooo short and wishing we could extend our stay… the reason – we had loads and loads of fun and the outcome: we have now taken an oath that we will or rather should take a break each month and visit different places… so that makes me a travel freak now… following on the footsteps of my husband who is a big travel freak apart from being “lazy”… so now you know where the “New” me is coming from?

Well, besides all that traveling, something else has taken a lot of importance and attention – getting my new house ready. This has taken forever now and finally I get to move in on 23rd of this month (hopefully). Though it has been painful, it was also lots of fun to work things out in my house and my happiness has no bounds when I think of it. Starting from selecting tiles to furnishing etc., you name it and I have done it… now I am just dying to get settled into my wedded life in my new house…. Just waiting for it to be 23rd!!! I am looking at it as a new beginning and hoping that my new life is just the starting of a very fulfilling and a happy future.

Well so long….

PS: - some pictures from my private album!

Happy New Year

First of all I would like to wish all of you a very happy, prosperous and a wonderful New Year. I hope you accomplish all that you hope for and desire to in the year 2007.

Now for the details of the celebrations on the new year’s eve… Sunil (my husband) and me, along with a few friends went to this party called Rio ’07 which took place here in Bangalore (Speed Zone) and which promised to be a gala event assuring free booze throughout along with performers from Brazil.

Well… I hate to say this but it was totally pathetic… Bangalore crowd was just awful that day… it seemed as though people were just dying for drinks & girls… I have always liked Bangalore for its people but how I hated them that night... The crowd just went crazy when they saw a semi-nude (samba dancers) performing on stage… Yuck!

It could have been an enjoyable event but for the crowd's behaviour… the organizers should have had better means to filter out people... The party was planned to go on till 3 am but was cut short to 1 am (can you believe that!!!) and whats more even the police found it difficult to control the gathering!!!

I just wanted to get out of there – there were people pushing & Jumping and drunkards falling all around and misbehaving… arrrghhhhh… The crowd was desperate – yes that’s the word!!! In utter desperation, they snatched bottles of drinks over the Bar counter – broke the refrigerator for beer etc…

I was skeptical in the first place to do something like this… that too on a new year’s eve since I have heard quite a lot of episodes happening on that night and so I didn’t want to do this…

But having said that i will not deny that I still ended up having some fun that night – danced with my hubby dear (:-))…. we left the party and headed straight for a place where we could eat our dinner (at 2 am!!!)… we were all hungry and did not get anything at the event.... But I just couldn’t eat anything at that time as my head was literally bursting and I was scared that it might just open up!!!

I wanted this New Year celebration to be special…. Well… for the only reason that it was my first new year’s eve with my hubby... I really wanted to do something that I haven’t done earlier… now I feel that an alternative of a quiet dinner with my hubby in a nice cozy restaurant would have just been an ideal way to spend it…. Should have just followed my guts instead of doing something horrendous like this!!! *Sigh*

Instead of making this a very special beginning I ended up going home with a horrible headache! What a way to begin… but at least I had my hubby with me throughout that night, so that, in a way, makes it up (:-))!!!

So that’s my story… I hope all of you had a happy start and had loads of fun… and I hope that this year you get all that you desire for along with lots of love and good health…

That’s it for now… More to follow!!!
